Allergic Diseases

Allergic disease is one of the major frequent and costly chronic diseases in both adults and pediatrics. Person with allergies are at increased risk for other diseases, including asthma. Allergic rhinitis is the major usually diagnosed allergy among adults, while respiratory allergies and skin allergies are those most commonly diagnosed among children. Testing options include blood testing, skin prick testing and food challenge. The skin prick test is generally administered by revealing the skin to small amounts of suspected allergens. The allergy blood tests look for certain immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in the blood that are fabricated by the body’s immune system when an allergen is present. Allergies have been shown to progress along a pattern known as the Allergy March, or Atopic March, but this natural progression can be interrupted by allergen immunotherapy.
