Calcium Phosphate

Calcium phosphate is a family of calcium ion (Ca2+)-containing materials and minerals along with inorganic phosphate anions. Many so-called calcium phosphates also contain oxide and hydroxide. They are nutritionally valued white solids. Calcium phosphates are present in many living species, such as mineral bone and enamel of the dents. In milk, it exists in a colloidal form in micelles bound to magnesium, zinc, and citrate casein protein-collectively referred to as colloidal calcium phosphate (CCP). In the production of phosphoric acid and fertilizers different calcium phosphate minerals are used. Overuse of certain forms of calcium phosphate can lead to surface runoff containing nutrients and subsequent adverse effects on water reception, such as algal blooms and eutrophication.
