Dystonia

Dystonia is a neurological disorder that conduces infinite, involuntary muscle contractions. These muscle contractions result in abnormal muscle movements and body postures, making it difficult for individuals to control their movements. The movements and postures may be painful. Dystonic movements are typically patterned and repetitive. Dystonia can influence any locale of the body including the eyelids, face, jaw, neck, vocal lines, middle, appendages, hands, and feet.  Depending on the region of the body affected, dystonia may look quite different from person to person. In addition to causing abnormal movements, depression and anxiety are common non-motor symptoms of dystonia.Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder that causes muscles in the body to contract or spasm involuntarily. The involuntary muscle contractions cause twisting, repetitive and patterned movements as well as abnormal postures. Dystonia isn't one disease but a syndrome – a group of symptoms that can't be attributed to one cause but share common elements. Some sorts of Dystonia may affect a selected body area, like the neck, face, jaw, eyes, limbs or vocal cords. Dystonia affects men, women and youngsters of all ages and backgrounds. It can develop in childhood and is often particularly disabling for children. Dystonia may be genetic or caused by factors such as physical trauma, exposure to certain medications, or other neurological conditions.
