Scoliosis may be a disorder that causes an abnormal curve of the spine, or backbone. There is a traditional spinal curve when looking from the side, but the spine should appear straight when looking from the front. Kyphosis may be a curve within the spine seen from the side during which the spine is bent forward. There is a traditional kyphosis within the middle (thoracic) spine. Lordosis may be a curve seen from the side during which the spine is bent backward. There is a normal lordosis in the upper (cervical) spine and the lower spine or lumbar spine. People with scoliosis develop additional curves to either side of the body, and therefore the bones of the spine twist on one another , forming a C or an S-shaped or scoliosis curve in the spine. Scoliosis is about twice more common in girls than boys. It are often seen at any age, but it's commonest in those over about 10 years aged .A doctor will carry out a physical examination of the spine, ribs, hips, and shoulders. With the aid of a tool called an inclinometer, or scoliometer, the doctor can measure the degree of scoliosis. The patient may be referred to an orthopedic specialist.Imaging scans such as X-rays, CT scans and MRIs can help assess the shape, direction, location, and angle of the curve
