Objective: to relate the type of breastfeeding with the women's sexual function. Method: cross-sectional study with 150 women in the postpartum period registered in the Strategy Family Health in a large Brazilian city. Two instruments were used: one for characterization of sociodemographic, obstetric and breastfeeding variables maternal, and the Female Sexual Function Index for the sexual. A descriptive analysis of the data was carried out, comparing the variables of interest through the Analysis tests of Variance, Brown-Forsythe and Tukey. Results: there was statistical significance between the groups that practiced different types of breastfeeding in the lubrication domain vaginal (p=0.015), and the breastfeeding mothers mixed or partial maternal presented higher scores for this domain (3.8). Conclusion: there is a difference in sexual function between the different types of breastfeeding. Women who had better vaginal lubrication belonged to the mixed breastfeeding group.
