The Effects of Preeclampsia on the Fetus and newborn Problem Statement: Preeclampsia account for ~ 16% of all maternal deaths. Research shows that in utero exposure to preeclampsia can have lifelong neurodevelopment sequela. Preeclampsia also predisposes this individual to adult disease states such as hypertension and metabolic syndromes. Preeclampsia increases the risk of premature delivery. Infants born between 34-36 6/7 weeks are termed late preterm infants and are immature compared to term infants. This population has increased morbidities and mortality. The purpose of this article is to explore the effects of preeclampsia on the fetus and discuss the role this diagnosis may play in managing the affected newborn and discuss implications for life long health..
