Abstract

Ampath Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (ABCCCP): This is a program that its goal is to improve access to screening and diagnostic services for breast and cervical cancer in western kenya. Most cancer patients remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed throughout their cancer journey before a proper diagnosis is done because they are not aware of signs and symptoms associated with cancer. ABCCCP reaches out to the community in order to screen breast and cervix which leads to early detection, treatment and prevention of cancer. The data was retrieved from targeted communities from July 2017 to December 2019. This data has been captured by ABCCCP team by use of point of care systems. Since the start of breast and cervical cancer screening in 2017, a total of 23014 have been screened for both cervical and breast cancer. For male breast cases, a total of 122 were screened, out of 122, 10 turned out to be cancer. For female breast cases, a total of 4925 were screened, out of 4925, 271 turned out to be cancer and for the cervical cases, a total of 17967 were screened, out of 17967, 1177 turned out to be cancer. Those that their cases were cancer negative have been encouraged to do routine screening and proper referrals to health care facilities has been made for the cancer positive clients. Screening has not only increased awareness on breast and cervical cancer within the communities, but has also helped in early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the disease.
