A christmas miracle: A case of previable premature rupture of membranes complicated by transfusion-related acute lung injury, transfusion-associated cardiac overload, adult respiratory distress syndrome, and septic shock

A 38 year-old woman presented to our institution with previable Prelabor Rupture Of Membranes (PROM). She desired expectant management at home but represented several hours later with metabolic acidemia, leukocytosis, and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). She underwent a Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) complicated by hemorrhage necessitating a hysterectomy and several hundred units of blood products.
